Magee men accused of robbing store with police chief outside | Crime
Two Simpson County men are in custody after New Hebron Police Chief George Walker foiled an armed robbery attempt Wednesday night.
According to authorities with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office the two men may also be linked to a recent rash of business hold ups in Simpson County.
Charles Martez James, 23, and Denzale Sandifer, 17, both of Magee, are behind bars in connection with the attempted armed robbery of the 43 Food Mart in New Hebron.
Both are accused of ambushing store owners just after 9:30 Wednesday night with firearms.
The police chief just happened to be in the parking lot of the store and heard a woman scream. The chief confronted the individuals who fled on foot and were quickly apprehended.
Authorities say James and Sandifer could be turned over to Simpson County authorities in connection with several business robberies in Magee and Mendenhall.
