A Simpson County Sheriff’s deputy’s cruiser was destroyed early Thursday morning by a falling tree.
Sheriff Kenneth Lewis said the deputy was driving on Highway 149 near Teapot Road around 2:30 a.m. when a “giant tree” fell across the road.
The tree fell on top of the deputy’s cruiser, completely destroying it.
Deputy Chris Jones was trapped in the vehicle until Mendenhall firefighters extricated him.
Jones was treated for lacerations at Simpson General Hospital and released.
“It is a miracle that he survived the incident,” Sheriff Lewis said.
